Who Are We?

Kentucky School for the Deaf was established by the Kentucky General Assembly on April 10, 1823, originally called the Kentucky Asylum for the Tuition of the Deaf and Dumb. While KSD was the fourth school for the Deaf to be established in the United States, it was the first school established west of the Allegheny Mountains, and the very first school for the Deaf to be supported by public funds, setting a precedent for other states to follow.
