Teacher/School Psychologist

The Kentucky Department of Education, Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville (Boyle County) has two openings for School Psychologists.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Conduct psychological assessments of deaf and hard of hearing students who have been referred for special education and related services, including the administration of standardized or specifically requested assessments, behavior evaluations and completion of the written integrated report.

 

Work with KSD teachers/administrators and local district special education teachers and related service providers in the completion of required three year assessments of students with identified needs for special education and related services.

 

Work with KSD staff as a team member to maximize process in the evaluation routine.

 

Conduct initial eligibility psychological assessments including behavioral observations. 

 

Interpret test results and complete a written integrated report for each student referred for special education, as well as those students requiring a three-year evaluation.

 

Consult with KSD school personnel, statewide school personnel and parents concerning the special needs of students in the referral process of currently receiving special education services.

 

Provide parent training as needed for students in the referral process or who are currently receiving special education services.

 

Participate in Admission and Release Committee (ARC) meetings as requested.

 

Provide individual student counseling as requested by the ARC meeting if and when working schedules allow.

 

Evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs or behavior management procedures at the request of the ARC meeting and based upon time available.

 

Work as a team member with the evaluation team in the integration, scheduling, and completing of all written reports.

 

Provide small group counseling sessions for students, at the request of the ARC meeting, based upon time available and the identified needs of the students.

 

Assist Special Education Representatives with referrals, including the identification and recommendation of appropriate educational and behavioral strategies.

 

Travel to statewide school districts for assessments as needed.

 

Provide professional development as requested from KSD and/or school districts.

 

Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies for medical, vocational, or social services.

 

Attend and contribute to the mental health team meetings.

 

Assist KSD’s Director of Special Education as needed.

 

Perform other duties as specified by the Director of Outreach.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Must possess a Masters Degree and valid Kentucky certification as a School Psychologist.  Applicant must be willing to learn and participate in Sign language classes at KSD.  Expected to attain SLPI rating of Advanced within four years of employment as part of tenure consideration.

In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Kentucky Teacher’s Retirement System.

Student Development Associate

 

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Next Generation Learners, Division of Learning Services, Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) in Danville, Kentucky (Boyle County) has an opening for a Student Development Associate.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Perform beginning level duties in providing supervision and instruction to students at the Kentucky School for the Deaf; and perform other duties as required.

 

Supervise students following the Kentucky School for the Deaf student supervision policy. Supervision is active, vigilant and provides for the welfare and well-being of students under supervision.

 

Maintain documentation of students’ locations and communicates across shifts.

 

Works well with special needs students, keeping in mind that each student is an individual with individual needs.

 

Work with students during study, homework and/or tutoring times.

 

Organize and implement leisure time activities.

 

Teach and model independent living skills, conflict resolution skills and participate in all programs related to student achievement and literacy.

 

Maintain cleanliness and a home-like environment on a daily basis.

 

Complete and maintain student records and reports.

 

Attend ARC meetings and other student related meetings as needed.

 

Maintain inventory of supplies for student life area.



Perform other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Applicants must be a high school graduate.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

In addition to the previously described qualification, an employee in this job title must furnish to the agency’s appointing authority within twelve (12) months of appointment or entrance into this job title, documentation that he or she possesses the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) rating of “Survival” level.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

 

Prior knowledge of the American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred.

 

Pay Grade: 8

 

Salary Schedule Range:  $1658.16-$2,196.52   

                      

***This is a full-time, eleven-month position that does not perform duties during July.  The annual salary is based on eleven months; however it is calculated to be distributed throughout twelve months or 24 paychecks; therefore, the salary range for this position would be: 

 

      ***$1,519.98-$2,013.48 monthly / $18,239.76 -$24,161.72 annually

 

The salary for this classification for newly appointed state employees is non-negotiable.
