Student Development Associate

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Next Generation Learners, Division of Learning Services, Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) in Danville, Kentucky (Boyle County) has an opening for a Student Development Associate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform beginning level duties in providing supervision and instruction to students at the Kentucky School for the Deaf; and perform other duties as required.
  • Supervise students following the Kentucky School for the Deaf student supervision policy. Supervision is active, vigilant and provides for the welfare and well-being of students under supervision.
  • Maintain documentation of students’ locations and communicates across shifts.
  • Works well with special needs students, keeping in mind that each student is an individual with individual needs.
  • Work with students during study, homework and/or tutoring times.
  • Organize and implement leisure time activities.
  • Teach and model independent living skills, conflict resolution skills and participate in all programs related to student achievement and literacy.
  • Maintain cleanliness and a home-like environment on a daily basis.
  •  
  • Complete and maintain student records and reports.
  • Attend ARC meetings and other student related meetings as needed.
  •  
  • Maintain inventory of supplies for student life area.
  •  
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must be a high school graduate.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • In addition to the previously described qualification, an employee in this job title must furnish to the agency’s appointing authority within twelve (12) months of appointment or entrance into this job title, documentation that he or she possesses the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) rating of “Survival” level.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Prior knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred.

Pay Grade: 8

Salary Schedule Range:  $1658.16-$2,196.52**                       

***This is a full-time, eleven-month position that does not perform duties during July.  The annual salary is based on eleven months; however it is calculated to be distributed throughout twelve months or 24 paychecks; therefore, the salary range for this position would be: 

      $1,519.98-$2,013.48 monthly / $18,239.76 -$24,161.72 annually

Please be advised per 101 KAR 2:034 and KDE’s internal policy concerning the salary of newly appointed state employees, the salary range that KDE will review and consider for this position prior to offering the position to the candidate is $1,519.98-$1,575.00.  The salary for this classification for newly appointed state employees is non-negotiable.

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

The Kentucky Department of Education, Office of Next Generation Learners, Division of Learning Services, Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville (Boyle County) has an opening for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform duties in the care of the ill, injured, or infirm under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed physician as permitted under KRS 314 and may supervise Licensed Practical Nurse Applicants or unlicensed assistive staff OR, Serve as charge nurse on the 2nd or 3rd shift; and perform other duties as required.
  • Administer scheduled and as needed medications to students on campus.
  • Assess students for illness/injury using good nursing judgment and skills.  Perform appropriate treatment for illness.
  • Notify parents, dorm staff, and other staff members of students’ illness and treatment.  Notify a doctor or supervisor if needed. 
  • Perform added duties such as tube feedings.
  • Set up appointments for student to see the doctor if needed.
  • File charts and papers daily.
  • Perform inventory checks every 3 months and prepares orders for supplies needed.
  • Re-stock items as needed (medicine cups, drinking cups, sodas.)
  • Disinfect exam room, medicine room, countertops, tables, etc daily.
  • Disinfect beds after sick children have used them.  Launder soiled bed linens and clothing as needed.
  • Perform lice checks and treatments.
  • Drop off and pick up prescriptions, medication, supplies as needed.
  • Transports students to doctor’s office, vision exam, medical appointments as needed.
  • Record events in daily log for oncoming nurse.  Record treatment, medication, illness, injury, etc in students’ charts daily.
  • Prepare daily medication and medication for home, weekend stays, extended dorm stays.
  • Document medication on as needed basis after meds are taken.

  • Log daily (Each shift) controlled medication count.
  • Administer Flu vaccine to students and staff.
  • Must obtain vital signs (Heart rate, blood pressure, respirations, and temperature).
  • Work with, and assist, with vision screenings, scoliosis screenings, Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy and mental health therapist.
  • Assist with staff education (medication training) and student preventative education (Flu prevention, hand washing, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Prior knowledge of the American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred.
  • Basic Life support certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of common medications given on campus, emergency treatments, as needed meds, seizures, allergies/anaphylaxis, etc. is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain accurate vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, lung sounds, and bowel sounds preferred.

Pay Grade:  10                

Salary Range:  $2,006.08 - $2,657.70**

      $1,838.92-$2,436.22 monthly / $22,066.88 -$29,234.70 annually
